Uruguay-General Facts
Uruguay is a small South American country that is located just east of Argentina and South of Brazil. The country is a safe, peaceful country with a highly educated population. The country is made of thousands of acres of farmland, including rice, soybeans, sunflower, cattle, sheep and more. This presents a perfect duck hunting site and Uruguay has become one of the top duck hunting locations for Americans and Europeans.
Spanish is the main language of Uruguay. The currency is the Uruguay peso which ranges in value against the US dollar. Currently the rate is 1 USD = 23 Uruguay Pesos. Many hotels, restaurants and shops will quote prices in USD and gladly accept USD. Exchanging money is easy to do at the Montevideo airport when you arrive. One tip is to wait until you reach Uruguay to exchange dollars for Uruguay pesos, the dollar is worth more and you will see a better return for the exchange transaction if done in Uruguay.
Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay and the city with the greatest population. About 2 million people reside in Montevideo. Montevideo is the location of the international airport and American Airlines currently flies directly to Montevideo from Miami. While Buenos Aires, Argentina gets all the press for touring and shopping and fine dining, Montevideo is unique and a great city to visit. The port of Montevideo is good to stroll as you will see lots of musicians, wonderful restaurants with prime meats and fresh vegetables and of course fresh seafood.

Los Gauchos Outfitters uses the web as a good tool for finding flights; however, since American Airlines is currently the only carrier that flies direct from the U.S. to Montevideo, we find it easier (and many times cheaper) to use the American Airlines website.
Flights will range from $850 USD to $1200 roundtrip in coach class. The American Airlines website has an excellent tool for searching for business class seats using your Advantage miles.
